Glossop Lion 1847
The Glossop Guild was formed in 2009 to promote liberal education in and around the town.
Glossop is a former mill town at the northern end of the Peak District National Park in the United Kingdom. The Guild is a non-profit organisation which endeavours to promote a wide range of courses, all of which we provide for the interests and enlightenment of participants. The Guild aims to select tutors on the basis of their ability to present lively and challenging courses, as well as for their expertise and experience. Members and participants are encouraged to contribute their own views and engage in informative discussion. All courses are open to both members and non-members.
With the Summer programme now completed we look forward to introducing our Autumn 2019 and Spring 2020 programmes. This year we will be offering a total of 29 different courses and single lectures, more than we have ever done in the past. As well as our regular team of lecturers we have been fortunate to procure the services of some very eminent new speakers. Two of which will take part in our "Glossop Guild In Conversation" sessions which proved so popular last year (see below).
Courses are now available for booking from this website via the courses pages.
Glossop Guild in Conversation
"Glossop Guild in Conversation" is a new venture for the Guild which proved very successful in the Spring term when we interviewed Her Honour Judge Diana Eagleston and later in the year talked with BBC screen writer Debbie Horsfield.
We have living within our community some very talented and successful people. Have you ever wondered what motivated them or how they got to where they are? They might have a successful career, it could be an unusual job, it could be an accolade they have achieved. They are not necessarily public speakers but they might be willing to share there experiences with us in the form of a question and answer session.
In the 2019 Autumn term we have invited Danny Brocklehurst a BAFTA and International Emmy award winning Screenwriter famous for amongst many others, "Ordinary Lies" and "Shameless" TV series, to tell us a little about his career and answer your questions.
We will be following that up in the Spring 2020 term with another "In Conversation " with Stella Massey a successful barrister with 30 years of experience in criminal law.
As a small non profit organisation Glossop Guild are exempt from registration with the ICO for data protection act purposes. I would like to pay for courses on this website but I don't have a PayPal account!
Did you know that you do not have to have a PayPal account to pay for courses on this site? To book a course on the courses page just select "Add to cart", this takes you to the "secure payments" page, then select "check out" (not "checkout with PayPal); then on the next page select "pay by debit or credit card" which is the option towards the bottom of the page. Fill in your details and follow the prompts. When the transaction is completed you will be given a transaction number which serves as your receipt - no further receipt for the course is required.
