Overview

The Glossop Guild was formed in 2009 to promote liberal education in and around the town.

Glossop is a former mill town at the northern end of the Peak District National Park in the United Kingdom. The Guild is a non-profit organisation which endeavours to promote a wide range of courses, all of which we provide for the interests and enlightenment of participants. The Guild aims to select tutors on the basis of their ability to present lively and challenging courses, as well as for their expertise and experience. Members and participants are encouraged to contribute their own views and engage in informative discussion. All courses are open to both members and non-members.

In light of the clear advice set out by Government, the Guild has regrettably, decided that we should cancel Guild communal events for the time being however we are working on a limited programme of on-line courses for the Summer and Autumn terms.

They say necessity is the mother of invention. Challenged by the restrictions imposed by the present Covid 19 pandemic the Guild committee has been working on a trial online programme of courses using the Zoom App. This is intended to fill the void left by the cancellation of the usual Summer Programme. It has been and still is a steep learning curve for the committee members and lecturers and we understand that some members may find getting used to online software like this a little daunting.

With this in mind we intend in the next few weeks to hold a trial in the form of two taster lectures using the Zoom App. These will be accompanied by detailed instructions on how to join the lectures. We hope these lectures will be given by Alan Sennett and Kevin Harrison in the second week in June and will be open to all members FREE of charge. For further details when they become available please use the contact button below.

We continue to work on the Autumn Term programme which we had hoped to begin in September however we will of course be guided by the British Government's advice regarding the safety of our members and visitors. If the summer trials of the Zoom App go well it is likely that the Autumn programme will also be run online. Further details will be posted later.

As a small non profit organisation Glossop Guild are exempt from registration with the ICO for data protection act purposes. Nevertheless any personal details you give us directly, or via our course booking process, will only be used for Glossop Guild purposes,  and maintained in accord with General Data Protection Regulation Principles
